because need to use human and animals. The most difficult, most important. And when that finish, then... putting fertilizer and taking whatever unnecessary things, rocks, garbage out, then they're ready to put the seed. They need wet, wetness is very important. Many, many different kind of... whatever grow, we need wetness. So, cultivating is like thinking of impermanent.
So, practitioner and non-practitioners, definition, not want to think anything, not want to think at all about impermanent. Is non-practitioners. Thinking of impermanent often, often, is practitioners. And thinking of impermanent often, what kind impermanent? When they look round, oh, everything's impermanent. Not... everything's not real and everything's impermanent. This is not imagining. This is truth. That is the fact. That is... a real.
How things appear, how things are. How things appear, solid, real, permanent. How things are, moving, shaking, unreal.
So,
thinking of impermanent make, we, our mind, become more soft. It make real gentle. It make real grounded, genuine grounded, real gentle. It really become mental wise.
It make not in trip. Otherwise, we are in trip. We just think I stay, I live ever, almost thinking like that.
And a...
number one, death is certain. What, what kind of cause will make us not sure?
But worst thing is, unpredictable. Worst thing is, when, never sure. Sick, dead, old, dead, young, healthy.
We know, we see, we experience, so death is very uncertain. So for that reasons the practitioner's mind thinking:
Especially we practitioners must keep one thing constantly in mind. The time of my death is uncertain. I don't know when I will die. It's completely uncertain. So if you have that kind of notion, if you nurture it in your mind, then what happens is that your attachment and clinging will a... become immediately reduced, will grow less and less. And also so that your negative emotions will get less and less. What happens at the same time is all your good qualities will grow forth, like the waxing moon. Um... you will think that um... you will have a sincere felt a, you will develop a sincere felt renunciation. At the same time, there comes the interest that you must, I must practice the Dharma. I must practice the Dharma. That's the only thing that really helps. I know that. So there is this really strong felt of diligence, a diligence which is not a pushed, forced one, but a joyful diligence which unfolds from that. And this is precisely what needs to happen, that the... I know the only thing that makes sense is to practice. This is the feeling we should have.
Especially we need to come to the firm understanding that whatever wealth we have, whatever, however much money, however much fame or reputation or admiration we have, it's so pointless. Why? Because sooner or later anyway we will lose it. There's no way around that. So we know that and then we let go of our attachment and fixation. Example, we need to become genuine practitioner. How to become genuine practitioner? We need to, we need to... think and we need to know the facts, logic. Fact and logic is everything is moving, shaking, unreliable.
Nothing is reliable. Name, fame, power, mental gain, nothing can save you, nothing can protect you. Only temporary it helps. Emergency time, none of this can help. Old age, uncurable disease, death, confused, sad. So for that reasons, thinking of impermanent is like farmer's farm become fertilized. No, not fertilized. How do you say? Plough? Ploughing, like ploughing, becomes soft. It's so important this, extremely important. If that... if, if, the farm is... cultivate, cultivate, big job is finished for farmers. We, if impermanent touches our heart, it makes our mentally, verbally, physically become much more soft, gentle. Soft, gentle and kind. Kind to self, kind to others. Mind become more wise. So that reasons, we shouldn't ignore impermanence. impermanence is great teacher. Otherwise, if we gain some names, some fames, some certain, certain gains, we become a lu la, ooh lu la. Big illusion, hilulution. Big hilulution. Alulution, hilulution. Then bang! Depressed. So that reasons thinking about impermanence, very powerful, very helping, healing. But not just impermanent, from intelligent impermanent, not stupid impermanent. Stupid impermanent, nothing is relevant, nothing is working.
Because of that. Need to do, ok, I not want to... I not want to fool myself. I not want to fool myself. I not want to... I want to be aware. I want to know the real. Not... I not want to be fooled by how things appear. I want to know the real, the reality. So then we are talking about the field, need wetness, is very important. So always in, we need to keep in our mind the kindness. The kindness is source of all goodness. We need to kind each other.
In the world right now, all the problem, misery problem is came from lack of kindness. In the family, if there's any quarrel, any uneasy, it's lack of kindness. Kindness is, is... source of individual happy, family happy, and nation, and the global. Kindness is the... in, in, in mundane life, mundane life, who not believe any religion, if they not believe the kindness, cheating each other, fooling each other, harming each other, bullying each other. So kindness is source of happiness. In general, how do you say, in mundane life, if we want mundane life, joyful, successful, one thing: kindness. If kindness is there, any other problem we can solve. If kindness is not there, however we have, whatever we have, wealth, technology, power, whatever we have, fight will come. Fight will come, one after another. Fight will come in the friend, in the family. Non-stop hurting, harming. You might have lot, but you never happy. Not only that, never sure who will harm who, who will do worse things, unpredictable. So if we have one thing, the kindness, is all goodness will appear from kindness. And, and, and dharmically, without kindness, without love and kindness, compassion, impossible to realize high realization. Why? Your mind is not clean. And we do so many dharmic way of practice. Samatha, samatha, vipassanā, visualization, this and that, many things we do. Also sometimes we do many hardship also, like say, doing a lot of prostrations.
Among all of them, if you have one thought, a loving kindness and compassion, unbearable, for a few seconds, it's much more powerful. That make your, all the negative emotions will shrink. That make you a lot of good, goodness will, dawn. So, we practitioners need to think every day at least three times of impermanent. And, often we need to think loving kindness, compassion. And mentally we need to keep one thing, oh nothing's real. Everything's impermanent. Thinking of that make you to realize ultimate truth. Thinking of, or grasping of real, real, permanent, permanent, mind become more and more narrow, and more and more rigid, physically also, verbally also. It become more and more ego, ego grow, grow, then worse, worse, then mental suffer a lot. So for that reasons, these are very important. Okay, thank you.

Two Things That Make You a Genuine Practitioner

In Two Things That Make You a Genuine Practitioner, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche explains that true Dharma practice is not about accumulating study or hours of meditation, but about taming the mind. He emphasizes that frequent reflection on impermanence softens the heart, dissolves ego-clinging, and brings clarity and gentleness—like a farmer ploughing the field before sowing seeds. Alongside this, the daily cultivation of kindness is essential: it is the root of all personal happiness, harmonious relationships, and even global peace. Rinpoche warns that without kindness, no amount of spiritual practice or worldly success will lead to true well-being. These two reflections—impermanence and kindness—are simple, powerful tools that any practitioner can apply to transform their life.
