In 2004, he received his PhD in Buddhist Studies from the University of Calgary. As a founding member of Rangjung Yeshe Institute (RYI), he spent fifteen years living in Nepal and teaching at the Institute. For most of this period, he served as Director of Studies at Kathmandu University’s Centre for Buddhist Studies, located at RYI. Furthermore, Andreas is the director of Dharmachakra Translation Committee where, along with his brother Dr. Thomas Doctor, he has participated in numerous significant translation projects and publications, most recently in the translation of sutras and tantras from the Tibetan canon. Since its very early days, he has been closely involved in translating and editing for 84000, the ongoing project to translate the Tibetan collection of the Buddha’s words and associated treatises into English. Currently, he is 84000’s editorial co-director, advising the project on translation methodology and project strategy.
