the essence of all the buddhas of the three times,

who directly shows my mind as dharmakāya.

'The Manual of the Concise Daily Practice'

NAMO I and all sentient beings, equal to the sky in number,

take refuge in those who are the supreme refuge.

Developing the awakened mind of aspiration and application,

I will accomplish the level of the trikāya master.

NAMO I and all sentient beings, equal to the sky in number,

take refuge in those who are the supreme refuge.

Developing the awakened mind of aspiration and application,

I will accomplish the level of the trikāya master.

NAMO I and all sentient beings, equal to the sky in number,

take refuge in those who are the supreme refuge.

Developing the awakened mind of aspiration and application,

I will accomplish the level of the trikāya master.

HŪṂ Within the space of emptiness, wisdom illuminates everything

and the samādhi of the seed syllable HRĪḤ shines forth radiant light.

All of appearance and existence becomes the pure realm of the lotus net.

In the centre of the maṇḍala so exquisitely adorned,

upon a bejewelled lion throne, a lotus,

and the discs of the sun and moon, is the syllable HRĪḤ.

In a single instant it transforms and I am then present as the Mahāguru Orgyen Töthreng Tsal.

The conqueror of appearance and existence is of white and red complexion and smiles peacefully while expressing wrath.

My right hand raises a five-pronged vajra toward the sky,

and with my left I hold a skull cup and a life vase in the gesture of equanimity.

My left arm embraces the katvanga, the concealed form of my secret consort,

and I wear the lotus crown, the secret gown, the dharma robes, and the brocade cloak.

My two legs are in the posture of royal ease and I am poised majestically in a sphere of rainbow light.

Above my head resides the Sambogakāya lord, Avalokiteśvara,

and the lord of this family, the protector Amitāyus.

Above, below and in all directions are the twelve manifestations

along with an ocean of three roots and dharma protectors, assembled like cloudbanks.

This is the inseparability of samaya and wisdom, spontaneously accomplished since the beginning.

The HRĪḤ in the heart centre of lord of the family shines forth light

that gathers all the vital nectar of saṃsāra and nirvāṇa and then dissolves into me.

Through the magical manifestation of the compassion of the noble tamer of beings,

the suffering of the six classes of beings is purified along with its causes.

In the heart centre of myself, the master who embodies all buddha families,

is a golden vajra with a HRĪḤ in its center.

Encircled by the mantra garland, the HRĪḤ sends forth light,

that brings offerings to the noble ones and accomplishes the welfare of all beings.

The outer environment becomes all pervasive purity, the realm of Akaniṣṭha,

and the inner inhabitants are the mudrā deities of appearance and existence manifesting as the ground.

All sounds are heard as mantras, and all thoughts and concepts are the sphere of luminosity.

The activities of the 4 common deeds are accomplished spontaneously,

and the indestructible and unchangeable supreme bliss,

the immortal level of the three kāyas, is attained.

OṂ ĀḤ HŪṂ VAJRA GURU PADMA SIDDHI HŪṂ

'The Condensed Smoke Offering'

Kye! The ultimate expanse, free from mental constructs, unborn and primordially pure,

arises unobstructed as the spontaneously present five lights.

From this magical display of effortless compassion,

I invite to this place of generous offering,

the guests of existence and peace, in whichever form they appear.

Arrive here instantaneously

just like a rainbow appearing in the sky,

and reside upon your own delightful seat.

SARVA SAMAYA JAḤ JAḤ

RAṂ YAṂ KHAṂ

All phenomena are illusory – the expression of awareness.

The fire, wind and water of great wisdom

purifies into emptiness all impurities, the habitual patterns of confusion,

by burning, scattering and washing them away.

From within the state of emptiness, the ultimate expanse of the five female buddhas,

appears an offering cloud of smoke

so perfect it becomes a treasure of unsurpassable sense pleasures –

cloud banks of the sky treasures.

OṂ ĀḤ HŪṂ

HŪṂ In this self-arisen brilliant maṇḍala of luminous emptiness

is a blazing fire of scented wood.

From the smoke of burning sense pleasures and material wealth

falls a rain of various divine substances and sense offerings:

forms, sounds, scents, tastes and textures are gathered like cloud banks.

There are symbols and substances of auspiciousness, the seven royal treasures,

food, drinks, garments, ornaments, grains, medicines, vehicles

and many other immeasurable enjoyments of existence and peace.

An inexhaustible great offering cloud of Samantabhadra

fills all realms in the skies extending everywhere.

May the objects that we embrace as refuge until enlightenment –

the three infallible supreme and rare jewels – accept this offering.

May the lords of blessings, siddhis and enlightened activities,

the assembly of masters, deities and ḍākinīs, accept this offering.

May the ocean of outer and inner dharma guardians and protectors,

those who distinguish right and wrong, and those who keep watch on the samayas, accept this offering.

May you who dispel the torment of poverty and shower down a rain of desirable objects:

millions of yakṣas, wealth gods and treasure lords, accept this offering.

May you who possess the power to benefit and harm, and you who move powerfully through magical powers:

the gatherings of spirits of the three thousand-fold universe, accept this offering.

May the nyen spirits, who protect this Earth and especially the realm of Tibet,

the virtuous gods, nāgas and local gods along with their retinues, accept this offering.

May the Gurlhas of the king, and the innate gods of the people,

as well as all the gods associated with the formation of existence, accept this offering.

May the Mentsünma spirit – the chief guardian of the realm of Tibet,

and the others among the five sibling emanations along with their retinues, accept this offering.

May the lords of years, months, days, time, par and mé,

all the gods associated with the fields of knowledge, accept this offering.

Innate and temporary gods, assembly of dralas who provide for conducive conditions,

may you accept this offering.

Naturally dwelling or temporarily present creators of obstructing conditions

and all kinds of obstacles, and all karmic creditors, may you accept this offering.

Objects of compassion, who have been my mothers in former lifetimes, all guests from the three realms,

the three existences and the six classes of beings, may you accept this offering.

I offer the outer world, the realm of all pervasive purity,

as the inexhaustible adornment wheel of sense pleasures.

I offer its inner contents – all beings, the mudrā deities of the three roots

– as the great indivisibility of space and wisdom.

I purify with the smoke of aromatic wood

so that all broken pledges, obscurations and impurities may become cleansed.

I make offerings with ocean-like clouds of sense pleasures.

Bestow the supreme and common accomplishments, and carry out the four activities.

Revered guests, you who are supreme and rare, I present to you the most exquisite offering.

Grant me blessings, empowerments, and engender the splendour of your compassion.

May the heart samayas with the protectors, the guests with special qualities, be mended.

Dispel all obstacles, make conducive conditions and goodness increase.

I dedicate this offering to all the guests, the obstacle makers and my karmic creditors,

may you be pleased and satisfied, and accomplish my aspirations for benefit and happiness.

I present extensive gifts to all the guests of compassion, the six classes of beings,

may you be free from all suffering and endowed with happiness.

Through having offered this purifying gift,

at this place of virtue and auspicious joy,

may good fortune, and an abundance of excellence, be magnetized to this world and its inhabitants

in the infinite pure realms of the ten directions of both saṃsāra and nirvāṇa.

May auspiciousness blaze forth like the light of the sun three times during the day.

May auspiciousness radiate like the brightness of the moon three times during the night.

May there be auspiciousness and delightful excellence at all times, day and night,

and may perfect conditions and auspicious signs be sontanesoulsy present.

- Meditation can be inserted here, as long as you wish -

HOḤ the maṇḍala of the knowledge holding master,

may I and the infinite sentient beings without a single exception,

accomplish the four activities spontaneously

and be liberated within the basic sphere of luminous dharmakāya.

May the blessings of the root and lineage gurus enter our hearts,

may the yidams and ḍākinīs accompany us like the body’s shadow,

may the Dharma protectors clear away all obstacles,

and may there be the auspiciousness that we attain the supreme and common accomplishments.

'Supplication to Padmasambhava'

Precious guru, Buddha of the three times,

Lord of all siddhis, Great bliss,

Dispeller of all obstacles, wrathful tamer of demons,

I supplicate you, please grant your blessings

Pacify the outer, inner and secret obstacles

and bless me that I may spontaneously fulfill my wishes.

Precious master of Uḍḍiyāna, I supplicate you;

may obstacles and mishap not arise.

May good conditions be gathered and our wishes fulfilled.

Bestow the supreme and common siddhis.

Son of Suddhodana, supreme and peerless guide;

Abbot, Master and Dharma King, protectors of beings from the Snowy Land;

all of you countless sources of refuge—

grant us the goodness that this wish is immediately fulfilled!

Through the power of noble prayers and changeless perfect intention,

may the re-emanation of Dewey Dorjé,

who spreads the precious instructions to the furthest reach in every direction

and devotedly upholds the conduct of sublime teaching and practice, smile yet again!

In the land encircled by snow mountains

you are the source of all happiness and good;

All-powerful Chenresik, Tenzin Gyatso.

Please remain until saṃsāra ends.

OṂ SVASTI Sovereign of speech upholding Uḍḍiyāna's teachings,

may your life be firm as vajra nature's fearlessness.

Invincible like diamond, fly your never-waning banner,

filling all directions with your vast activity.

OṂ SVASTI Ocean of conquerors, Three Jewels and Three Roots,

bestow your blessings that the three secrets may be forever steadfast for the great sun of the Kagyü and Nyingma Dharma,

and that all his aims and aspirations for the teachings and beings

be utterly and completely fulfilled.

OṂ SVASTI By the power of the gurus and deities of immortality,

may the life of this noble and supreme emanation,

fearless and renowned guide who upholds the buddha's teachings of Sutra and Mantra,

be unchanging and steadfast, and may his wishes be spontaneously fulfilled.

I pray that the guru may have excellent health!

I pray that his life span may be extremely long!

I pray that his activity may spread and flourish!

Guru, grant your blessings that we may be indivisible!

May the glorious guru's life be firm.

May all beings, vast as space, have happiness

and by gathering the accumulations and purifying the obscurations,

may I and all others be swiftly established at the level of enlightenment!

May the supreme and precious mind of enlightenment,

awaken in those where it has not yet arisen.

Where it has arisen, may it never decrease,

but continue to flourish forever more.

By this virtue may all beings perfect

the accumulations of merit and wisdom,

and may they attain the sacred two kāyas

resulting from merit and wisdom.

By this merit, may I attain omniscience.

Having defeated the enemy, misdeeds,

may I free all beings from the ocean of existence,

with its stormy waves of birth, old age, sickness and death.

May all the aspirations for the benefit of beings,

from Samantabhadra and great Vajradhara

down until our kind root guru,

be accomplished this very day.

You are the activity of the victorious ones, vanquishing the four demons.

Karmapa, may there be the auspiciousnes that your teachings, the supreme essence of the doctrine,

increase and expand without any end, spreading all-pervasively

and unceasingly throughout the ten directions.

May the tradition of Drodül Chokgyur Dechen Lingpa,

the universal monarch of the ocean of incarnated tertöns,

pervade throughout all directions and times,

and may there be the auspiciousness of unfolding the virtuous marks of benefit and happiness.

The teacher has appeared in this world

and the teachings have illuminated it like the light of the sun.

May the holders of the teachings be in harmony, like siblings,

and may the goodness of the teachings remain for a very long time.
